Eric Johnson’s
racing career began in 2000 when he and his father built a go-kart through
the Kids Kart Club in Neenah, Wisconsin. He ran in the Kids Kart Club
for four years, 2000 – 2004. In his four years of go-karting he
managed to rack up an impressive 38 wins, 12 if which were feature wins.
Eric’s rookie year he finished 5th in points, but the following
three seasons ended with three consecutive third place finishes.
In 2004 Eric and his father, Jim, did double duty. Eric raced go-karts
every Monday night in Oshkosh, as well as helped Kyle Quella and Charlie
Haven in the pits at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR).
Early in the 2005 season, Jerry Quella (team owner) offered to let Eric
drive the number 1 Wisconsin Sport Truck, previously driven by Charlie
Haven. Charlie bought a new truck with the intent of having his son
start racing trucks in 2006. Eric had one semi-feature win in 2005,
when moments before he had popped his knee out of socket. It was Eric’s
only win of 2005, but he did gain valuable experience.
The 2006 season had its ups and downs. Motor problems struck the number
1 team, and gave them problems for most of the season. In 2006 Eric
lead his first feature laps at 141 Speedway, and won a heat at WIR.
Over the off season
following 2006, Eric assisted Quella Racing in building a new sport
truck. During the season he was a mechanic on the 02 truck, and in December
2007 Eric was elected to the secretary’s position in the Wisconsin
Sport Truck Association.
During 2008 Eric plans to work with Quella
Racing on both the sport truck and the late model programs. He will
also serve his term as secretary through the 2009 season.
